Wellness Hacks are simple lifestyle tweaks that can improve the functioning of the body. Our aim is for you to thrive rather than survive.

We are on a mission to empower you with realistic and practical ‘wellness hacks’ which can impact your health, energy and state of mind in 2018. In today’s modern world we often find that stress, sleep and weight management play a key role in our overall wellbeing. We have combined our skill sets to bring together three powerful evenings where you will learn how to deal with these fundamental areas in life. Wellbeing advice can often be too complicated, esoteric or overwhelming. We are here to simplify things, bring you back to basics and show you how to incorporate these powerful hacks into your busy lives.

This series is for you if:
- You lead a stressful life and feel concerned about the impact on your brain and body
- You are looking to stay young, stay healthy and stave off the oxidative stress of everyday life
- You feel fatigued and want a natural way to energise yourself
- You have trouble sleeping and can’t find the ‘off switch’ for your brain
- You have plateaued with dieting
- You want to feel more centred and balanced

£18 per evening when booked individually
£45 for all three evenings when booked at once

Please note that the price above excludes the Eventbrite booking fee. No tickets will be available on the door, as we would like to ensure that everyone gets a goody bag.

Macc Laughs - Women in Comedy Festival Double Bill

Macc Laughs - Women in Comedy Festival Double Bill

*** SOLD OUT - NO TICKETS ON THE DOOR ***

The Fifth Annual Women in Comedy Festival in Manchester (Oct 19-29) is described as one of the "UK's best comedy festivals" (The Skinny) and this year is putting on more than 50 events across the city!

Can't make it to Manchester? Want to see some shows before Manchester does? We got you. We're bringing a little bit of the festival to Macclesfield.

Come and watch two international ladies' hour-long shows back-to-back, including MaccLaugh's very own resident MC, Clay Nikiforuk!

Clay was an improv performer, storyteller, and writer, but after a near-death Air France experience, decided to be a stand-up comedian. Fun To Be Around is a mental health manifesto so crazy, it just might work...

What do you say to someone you love when you think they may have lost their marbles? Join this comedic journey and explore how humour and honesty can rebuild a sense of normalcy, even after someone (maybe you) has gone off the deep end.

A manic mash-up of stand-up comedy and storytelling, equal parts confession, critique, and rallying cry. Featured in Toronto’s Best of Fringe, Clay is back with shiny new material in her favorite old format: myth-busting research, stories of real things that actually happened, and no-holds-barred funniness.

Praise for previous work:

“Funny and Brutally honest” – NOW Toronto

"A fantastic script and charming presence. A definite must-see” - Charlebois Post

Katharine Ferns is In Stitches

Brutally funny and unflinchingly honest, “In Stitches” is the latest Fringe hit from Manchester-based Canadian comedian Katharine Ferns. Based on true events from her own life, the story begins on April 21, 2016 - the day Prince passed away and Katharine ended up in stitches (literally). Through personal insights and a lot of laughs, Katharine’s acclaimed solo show leaves her audiences in stitches (figuratively).

“It is pitch perfect performance and a beautifully-written, perfectly-pace comedy script. Absolutely wonderfully done. A perfect Fringe show. Laughs. Tears. Jaw-dropping. It deserves a (formerly-known-as) Perrier Award.” - John Fleming

“Brutally honest from the start this show just goes to prove you can make comedy out of tragedy….moving, witty and sincere performance.” - North West End

They will be supported by Stu Wooding - comedian and full-time man (Hot water new comedian winner 2015)

"A natural on stage, and instantly liked by the crowd." - Hot Water Comedy

"Charming, lovable, master of the misdirection, and very very funny." - Caffeine and Comedy

Buddhist Meditation - 'The Six Perfections'

Buddhist Meditation - 'The Six Perfections'

* FULLY BOOKED *

The Six Perfections

This course will be led by long-term students of Lama Jampa Thaye, a scholar and meditation master trained in the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions of Buddhism and founder of the Dechen Buddhist Community. For more information, visit lamajampa.org, kagyubuddhism.org and dechen.org

All beings want happiness and want to avoid suffering, but don’t know how to achieve this in a lasting way. The six perfections are fundamental and profound Buddhist teachings that are designed to transform our perspective, taking it from being inward-looking to being skillful and compassionate. This outward-looking perspective removes our fixation on self and paradoxically increases our happiness as we stop clinging to what seems good and rejecting what seems bad.

In this course, which will run over three sessions, we will look at each of the six perfections, considering what each one is, how it can be put into practice, and its benefits for us and for others. While the six paramitas are fundamental practices of Mahayana Buddhism whose cultivation strengthens practice and brings enlightenment, they are equally applicable to anyone interested in developing a different way of viewing and interacting with the world.

This course consists of three sessions.

Dates: July 4, 2017  //  September 5, 2017  //  October 3, 2017
Time: 7 - 9pm

Investment: £36 (£12 per session - includes tea and cake)

How to book your place: £18 non-refundable deposit payable at the café (cash only) or online (green button below - includes 50p booking fee). Balance to be paid in full (cash only) at the first session

Buddhist Meditation Workshop

Buddhist Meditation Workshop

This is the last session of the current theme - the next session will be in July

The Four Thoughts That Turn The Mind to Dharma

At the heart of Buddha’s teaching are both a profound insight into the nature of things and a vital concern for the welfare of all beings. Buddha declared that the capacity for such insight and compassion exists within us all. He set out a path consisting of three main elements that we can follow to develop these:
• Meditation, which calms the turbulence of mind and develops real insight into how things truly are.
• Ethical behaviour, which transforms our way of relating to others, so that we put their needs first.
• Wisdom, which develops an understanding of the true nature of the world around us.

The Four Thoughts That Turn The Mind to Dharma is a fundamental yet profound Buddhist teaching, the foundation of all practice of the Buddhist path. Over four sessions, the four thoughts – precious human birth, impermanence, karma and the nature of suffering – will be described in detail. Interspersed with sessions of calm-abiding and insight meditation, these sessions will form a solid grounding in the three main elements of the Buddhist path.

This course will be led by long-term students of Lama Jampa Thaye, a scholar and meditation master trained in the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions of Buddhism and founder of the Dechen Buddhist Community.

For more information, visit lamajampa.org and dechen.org.

This course consists of four sessions over four months.

Dates:
7th March
